Type
Cryotherapy
Duration
3 min
A two-to-three-minute session inside Recovery Hub's fully electric whole-body cryotherapy chamber, cooled to between minus 110 and minus 180 degrees Celsius. Unlike nitrogen-based systems, the electric chamber delivers uniform cold across the entire body without exposing the head to inert gas, allowing for a more complete cold-shock response. The rapid temperature drop triggers vasoconstriction, endorphin and norepinephrine release, and activation of cold-shock proteins involved in cellular maintenance. Clients commonly report improved mood, reduced muscle soreness, and better sleep quality after regular sessions.
Recovery Hub's whole-body cryotherapy is the centrepiece of Malaysia's first dedicated biohacking centre. The studio uses a fully electric cryotherapy chamber — a significant distinction from older nitrogen-based cryo saunas. Electric chambers cool the entire cabin uniformly, including the air around the head and upper body, which nitrogen systems cannot safely do because they rely on displacing oxygen with nitrogen gas. This means the cold-shock response is more systemic and the temperature control more precise, ranging from minus 110 to minus 180 degrees Celsius depending on tolerance and protocol goals. During the brief exposure window, skin-surface temperature drops rapidly. The nervous system interprets this sudden cold as a survival signal, redirecting blood from the periphery to the body's core. This process floods the bloodstream with endorphins, norepinephrine, and anti-inflammatory cytokines. Cold-shock proteins such as RBM3 are activated, which research suggests may play a role in synaptic maintenance and cellular repair pathways. On exiting the chamber, peripheral blood vessels dilate and oxygen-rich blood rushes back to the extremities. Many people experience an immediate lift in mood and mental alertness. Over repeated sessions — typically two to three per week — the cumulative effects may include reduced exercise-induced muscle damage, lower baseline inflammation, improved joint mobility, and enhanced sleep architecture. First-time visitors receive a brief orientation covering safety protocols, breathing techniques, and what to expect during the session. Protective gear including gloves, socks, and ear protection is provided. The total visit time is approximately 15 minutes including changing and a short post-session recovery period. Recovery Hub recommends pairing cryotherapy with their red light therapy or compression sessions for a stacked recovery protocol.
