Next Health Bellevue's whole-body cryotherapy uses a fully enclosed cryotherapy chamber that circulates extremely dry, cold air to temperatures around −150°F (approximately −101°C) — without using liquid nitrogen as the cooling medium. This non-nitrogen electric chamber design keeps the patient's head inside the enclosed unit throughout the 2–3 minute session, differentiating it from partial-body or open-top nitrogen cryosaunas where the head protrudes above the nitrogen vapour level. During the session, the intense cold exposure at the skin surface triggers a rapid sympathetic nervous system response: peripheral blood vessels constrict sharply to protect core temperature, causing a central redistribution of blood flow that transiently increases circulatory delivery to core organs and the brain. On exiting the chamber, vasodilation occurs as the body returns to ambient temperature — this post-session rebound brings freshly oxygenated blood and metabolic substrates to peripheral muscle tissue. The physiological cascade associated with cold exposure includes release of norepinephrine — a neurotransmitter and hormone linked to mood regulation, focus, and pain modulation — as well as transient elevation of anti-inflammatory cytokine profiles. Athletes commonly use cryotherapy as a post-exercise recovery accelerator; other clients use it for general energy, mood, and skin tone benefits. The extremely dry air used in Next Health's electric chambers avoids the respiratory concerns sometimes associated with nitrogen vapour in older cryosauna designs.
