Cryotherapy
Duration
10 min
Targeted nitrogen vapour cryotherapy applied to a specific joint or muscle area for approximately 2-3 minutes, providing localised pain relief, inflammation reduction, and accelerated healing.
Local cryotherapy at MCK delivers concentrated cold therapy to a specific area of the body — most commonly a joint (knee, shoulder, ankle, elbow), a muscle group, or a surgical recovery site. Nitrogen vapour is applied to the selected body surface for approximately 2-3 minutes, achieving deeper tissue cooling in the treated region than whole-body cryotherapy can provide. The cold application numbs local pain receptors (nociceptors), reduces nerve conduction velocity, and causes vasoconstriction that limits inflammatory swelling. Upon rewarming, the reactive vasodilation brings a surge of oxygenated blood to the treated area, supporting the body's natural repair processes. At MCK, local cryotherapy is frequently prescribed alongside whole-body cryotherapy as part of a rehabilitation programme. The whole-body session provides systemic anti-inflammatory and endorphin effects, while the local treatment delivers additional focused therapy to the primary problem area. This combination approach is a standard protocol in Polish rehabilitation medicine, where cryotherapy has been used in clinical settings for decades. The treatment is also available as a standalone option for patients who do not require or are not suitable for whole-body cryotherapy. At 30 PLN per session, it is one of the most affordable physiotherapy modalities available at the centre.
