A 60-minute Japanese ganbanyoku session on heated volcanic rock at ~42°C. A gentle, radiant-heat sauna experience that warms the body gradually from below, promoting perspiration and relaxation without the intense temperatures of Finnish or infrared saunas.
Ganbanyoku — literally "rock bathing" in Japanese — is a traditional thermal therapy in which the guest lies on a bed of heated volcanic stones. At FOLGA, the ganbanyoku room maintains a gentle temperature of approximately 42°C, which is significantly lower than conventional saunas (typically 60-110°C) but produces a surprisingly effective warming and perspiration response due to the radiant heat transfer from the stones directly into the body. The experience begins by lying on the heated stone bed, typically on a towel, wearing light cotton clothing provided by the centre. The volcanic rocks emit far-infrared radiation that penetrates the body gradually, warming the core from the contact surface upward. Unlike convective heat (hot air) used in Finnish saunas, the radiant heat from the stones bypasses the skin surface and warms deeper tissues directly, producing a sensation of warmth that builds slowly over 15-20 minutes before inducing noticeable perspiration. The low ambient temperature makes ganbanyoku accessible to guests who cannot tolerate or prefer to avoid high-temperature saunas — including those with cardiovascular conditions that contraindicate extreme heat stress, elderly guests, or anyone who simply dislikes the sensation of breathing superheated air. Despite the moderate temperature, a full 60-minute ganbanyoku session produces substantial sweating and a deep sense of relaxation in the musculature and nervous system. Regular practitioners in Japan report improved sleep, reduced joint stiffness, and enhanced skin condition. Ganbanyoku is relatively rare in Central Europe, making FOLGA one of the few places in Warsaw — and in Poland — to experience this traditional Japanese thermal practice. The session can be booked as a standalone treatment or combined with a float session for a comprehensive relaxation visit.
