Cryodestruction uses liquid nitrogen to destroy unwanted skin tissue with extreme cold. The clinic applies it to viral and seborrhoeic warts, actinic keratoses, some superficial skin cancers (basaliomas) and hypertrophic or keloid scars, and also offers a cryostimulation protocol for hair loss. At Derma Blansko the freeze is applied by a dermatovenerologist after assessing the lesion; treated warts then die back and shed naturally, typically over about two weeks to a month.
Cryotherapy, or cryodestruction, is a controlled freezing technique in which liquid nitrogen is applied to a lesion to destroy the targeted cells with extreme cold. As the tissue freezes and thaws, the abnormal cells are damaged beyond repair and the body then clears them naturally. At Derma Blansko a dermatovenerologist uses it for a range of benign and pre-malignant skin problems — common viral warts, seborrhoeic (age) warts, actinic (solar) keratoses, certain superficial basal cell carcinomas (basaliomas), and hypertrophic and keloid scars — and also offers a scalp cryostimulation protocol that supports the management of hair loss. The lesion is first assessed to confirm it is suitable for freezing, then liquid nitrogen is applied for short, timed bursts; the sensation is a brief sting or burning during and just after the freeze. Over the following hours the area may redden, swell slightly or form a blister, after which a scab develops; a treated wart dies off and sheds naturally, generally within about two weeks to a month, and more than one session may be needed for thicker or stubborn lesions. Aftercare is simple — keep the area clean and dry, protect it from the sun and avoid picking at the crust. Because freezing destroys tissue without leaving a specimen, the clinic assesses any pigmented or suspicious lesion first and chooses a removal method that allows histology where that is the safer option. Per-lesion pricing depends on the number and size of areas treated; the scalp cryostimulation protocol for hair loss is priced and described separately.
