ECG-gated coronary CT angiography at SurGal Clinic Brno for non-invasive assessment of coronary artery stenosis, plaque burden, and congenital coronary anomalies. AIDR-equipped CT with cardiology-grade reporting.
Coronary CT angiography (CCTA) at SurGal Clinic Brno provides non-invasive visualisation of the coronary arteries using ECG-gated contrast-enhanced multi-slice CT, enabling detailed assessment of the coronary lumen, plaque burden, and vessel anatomy without the need for cardiac catheterisation. Performed on the clinic's AIDR-equipped scanner — which reduces radiation dose by 50–80% — the examination delivers diagnostic coronary imaging with substantially lower radiation exposure than conventional CT coronary protocols. The coronary arteries — the left main, left anterior descending, left circumflex, and right coronary arteries — supply the heart muscle with oxygenated blood. Atherosclerotic plaque buildup within these vessels leads to stenosis (narrowing) that can cause angina or, if a plaque ruptures, myocardial infarction. CCTA is the non-invasive standard for assessing stable chest pain with low-to-intermediate pre-test probability of coronary artery disease, as recommended by the European Society of Cardiology. A normal CCTA effectively rules out significant coronary obstruction, sparing patients from invasive catheter angiography and its procedural risks. The examination requires ECG-gating (synchronising CT acquisition with the cardiac cycle to freeze coronary motion), intravenous contrast administration via a high-flow cannula, and in some cases beta-blocker preparation before the scan to reduce heart rate and optimise image quality. The radiology team at SurGal discuss preparation requirements with each patient at booking. The report covers systematic per-segment analysis of each major coronary artery, stenosis grading, and characterisation of plaque as calcified, non-calcified, or mixed — the latter two categories being more vulnerable to rupture and most relevant to cardiovascular risk stratification. Results are provided as a written report with digital imaging. SurGal Clinic is a comprehensive private hospital with 24/7 inpatient capacity, giving patients the confidence of a full clinical environment for their cardiac imaging. Self-pay and international patients use the SurGal Premium portal for booking and English coordination.
