Digital Smile Design is a planning service that uses photographs and digital scans to design the proportions, shape and arrangement of the teeth before treatment begins. It lets the patient and clinician agree on the target appearance of a smile makeover or full-arch restoration in advance. The digital design can then be turned into a physical mock-up so the proposed result can be previewed in the mouth.

Digital Smile Design (DSD) is a planning step that brings the aesthetic side of treatment into focus before any irreversible work is done.
