SPEA Olomouc's three dental clinics offer professional teeth whitening using the Opalescence system — one of the most clinically validated whitening brands. In-office Opalescence treatment delivers a concentrated hydrogen peroxide gel to the enamel in a controlled chairside session of approximately 60 to 90 minutes, lightening the tooth shade several levels in a single visit. The take-home kit provides custom-fitted trays and professional-strength carbamide peroxide gel for gradual whitening over one to two weeks at home. Internal whitening is also available for non-vital (root-treated) teeth that have darkened internally. All options are performed by the clinic's dental team, led by MUDr. Ivana Gavlíková and MUDr. Eva Janáčková.
Teeth whitening at SPEA Olomouc uses Opalescence — a clinically studied bleaching system made by Ultradent Products — in both in-office and take-home formulations. Opalescence is distinguished in the whitening market by its inclusion of potassium nitrate and fluoride in the gel matrix: potassium nitrate reduces dentinal hypersensitivity during and after whitening, and fluoride supports enamel remineralisation, both of which improve patient comfort and post-treatment outcomes compared with older peroxide-only gels. The in-office Opalescence treatment uses a high-concentration hydrogen peroxide gel applied in controlled cycles at the chairside. Before application, the gums are protected with a light-cured resin barrier to prevent gel contact with soft tissue. The gel is applied to the tooth surfaces in one or more timed cycles, each lasting around fifteen to twenty minutes. The dentist monitors the whitening progress and the patient's comfort throughout. The session takes approximately 60 to 90 minutes in total, and most patients achieve a significant multi-shade improvement in a single visit. This option is suited to patients who want immediate, dentist-supervised results — for example ahead of a wedding, event, or graduation. The take-home Opalescence system involves the dental team taking impressions to manufacture custom-fitted bleaching trays. The patient receives the trays and a supply of professional-strength carbamide peroxide gel (which breaks down to hydrogen peroxide at a lower concentration over a longer contact time). Trays are worn for a specified period each day — typically one to two hours — over one to two weeks, with the final shade achievable depending on the starting shade and the individual's response. This option suits patients who prefer to whiten gradually and control the process at home. Internal whitening (also called walking bleach or non-vital whitening) is an entirely different technique used for teeth that have darkened from inside after root canal treatment. A bleaching agent is sealed inside the pulp chamber between appointments, allowed to act for several days, then renewed or removed once the desired shade is reached. This is priced per tooth at 2,000 CZK. The dentists at SPEA check suitability before beginning any whitening. Contraindications include active decay, exposed root surfaces, unsatisfactory existing restorations, gum disease, and pregnancy or breastfeeding. Whitening does not alter the colour of existing crowns, veneers, or composite fillings — if you have restorations on visible front teeth, the dentist will advise on matching strategies. Post-treatment, avoiding highly pigmented foods and beverages (coffee, red wine, berries, tobacco) for 48 hours helps protect the result.
