Type
Hyperbaric Oxygen
Duration
1 hour
A 60-minute session in a pressurised hyperbaric chamber where the client breathes concentrated oxygen at above-atmospheric pressure. The increased partial pressure of oxygen drives higher dissolved oxygen levels in blood plasma, reaching tissues beyond what haemoglobin-bound oxygen delivery can achieve under normal conditions. This supports wound healing, reduces oedema, and may enhance cognitive function during and after the session.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) works on a straightforward physical principle: Henry's Law states that the amount of gas dissolved in a liquid is proportional to the partial pressure of that gas above the liquid. By increasing atmospheric pressure inside the chamber while the client breathes concentrated oxygen, HBOT dramatically raises the dissolved oxygen content of blood plasma — beyond the carrying capacity of haemoglobin alone. Under normal atmospheric conditions, nearly all oxygen transport relies on haemoglobin binding in red blood cells. The dissolved oxygen fraction in plasma is relatively small. Inside a hyperbaric chamber at elevated pressure, the dissolved oxygen in plasma can increase by a factor of 10 to 15, delivering oxygen to tissues through diffusion gradients rather than requiring red blood cell delivery. This is particularly relevant for areas with compromised circulation, where damaged capillaries may not allow red blood cells to pass but plasma can still flow. The 60-minute session at RESYNC is the studio's standard HBOT duration, balancing therapeutic exposure time with practical scheduling. Clients enter the chamber, which is pressurised gradually over several minutes. Once at operating pressure, the main exposure period begins. Some people notice a mild pressure sensation in the ears during pressurisation, similar to the feeling during aircraft descent, which can be managed with standard equalisation techniques like jaw movement or swallowing. During the session, clients can rest, read, or use their phone. The chamber is transparent, reducing any claustrophobic concerns, and staff maintain communication throughout. Depressurisation at the end of the session is equally gradual. Research on HBOT spans applications from wound healing and post-surgical recovery to neurological recovery and age-related cognitive support. While many of these applications are still being investigated in clinical trials, the physiological mechanism — enhanced tissue oxygenation — is well-established and forms the basis of both clinical and wellness uses. RESYNC also offers 30-minute and 90-minute HBOT sessions for those wanting shorter or more extended exposure. Multi-session packages are available across all durations, with meaningful per-session savings at the 5 and 10 session levels.
