CT Angiography

Type

CT Angiography

Duration

50 min

Contrast-enhanced CT vascular imaging to assess the coronary arteries, carotid arteries, aorta, pulmonary vasculature, or peripheral leg and pelvic vessels. The practice also offers contrast-free MR angiography of the neck and pelvic-leg vessels as an alternative for patients unable to receive contrast. Performed at Radiologie am Turm under Prof. Dr. Jacobi. Includes personal radiologist consultation. No referral required for self-pay patients.

CT angiography (CTA) at Radiologie am Turm uses intravenous contrast to opacify blood vessels and produce high-resolution, three-dimensional images of the vascular tree — without the need for arterial catheter insertion, making it a minimally invasive alternative to conventional angiography for most diagnostic questions. The practice performs CTA for several vascular territories: **Coronary CTA**: Non-invasive visualisation of the left main coronary artery, left anterior descending, left circumflex, and right coronary artery. ECG-gated acquisition minimises cardiac motion artefact. Coronary CTA has a very high negative predictive value — a normal result effectively excludes significant obstructive coronary artery disease. It is endorsed by the ACC/AHA as the preferred first-line test for stable and acute chest pain in patients without prior coronary disease. **Carotid CTA**: Assessment of carotid artery stenosis as part of stroke risk evaluation. Identifies calcified and non-calcified plaque burden and luminal narrowing. Guides treatment decisions about medical management or carotid endarterectomy. **Aortic CTA**: Thoracic and abdominal aorta assessment for aneurysm screening, dissection characterisation, or pre-operative planning. Aortic CTA is standard for surveillance of known or suspected aortic disease. **CT Pulmonary Angiogram (CTPA)**: Imaging of the pulmonary arteries for suspected pulmonary embolism — the reference standard non-invasive test for PE diagnosis. **Peripheral Vascular CTA**: Runoff CTA of the iliac, femoral, popliteal, and tibial vessels for assessment of peripheral arterial disease. For patients who cannot receive iodinated contrast (allergy history, impaired renal function), the practice also offers non-contrast MR angiography of the neck vessels and pelvic-leg vasculature using its Siemens 3T Lumina MRI, providing a radiation-free and contrast-free alternative for these territories. Every CTA is followed by a personal consultation with the radiologist to review findings, discuss clinical implications, and advise on next steps. A GOÄ-based cost estimate is provided at booking.
