Contrast-enhanced 64-slice CT imaging of the vascular system producing 3D vessel maps. Diagnoses aneurysms, arterial stenoses, vascular occlusions, and pulmonary embolism without arterial probe insertion. Suitable for patients with pacemakers who cannot have MRI.
CT angiography at Radiologie am Raschplatz uses an intravenous iodine contrast agent combined with the practice's 64-slice multislice CT scanner to produce three-dimensional maps of arteries and veins throughout the body. The technique is particularly valuable for patients who carry cardiac pacemakers and therefore cannot undergo MRI-based vascular examinations — the CT approach has no contraindication from implanted metallic devices. The iodine contrast agent is administered through a peripheral IV line in the arm, and the scanner acquires images timed to the peak arterial enhancement. AI-assisted post-processing then reconstructs the raw cross-sectional data into three-dimensional vascular representations that the reporting radiologist uses to assess vessel calibre, wall morphology, stenosis severity, and aneurysmal dilatation. The rendered images can be rotated and reviewed from any angle, enabling precise spatial assessment of complex vascular anatomy. Clinical indications include aortic aneurysm detection and sizing, peripheral arterial occlusive disease (causing pain on walking), renal artery stenosis contributing to difficult-to-control hypertension, deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, and intracranial vessel assessment prior to surgical or interventional planning. The 3D colour-coded output is included in the findings report provided to referring physicians. Patients must provide current kidney function (creatinine) and thyroid (TSH) blood values before iodine contrast administration — typically from within the preceding six weeks — as both organ systems interact with iodinated contrast agents. Adequate hydration before and after the examination supports contrast clearance. Patients on Metformin should discuss the need for a 48-hour pause around the examination with their prescribing physician. The total time at the practice is approximately 45–60 minutes including preparation and post-scan review. Appointments are available Monday to Thursday 08:00–18:00 and Friday 08:00–13:00.
