High-definition computed tomography on a Siemens SOMATOM Force dual-source CT (worldwide serial #14) — up to 384 simultaneous slices with up to 90% radiation reduction. Covers chest, abdomen, pelvis, and specialist regions.
Computed tomography at Private Access Linz is performed on a Siemens SOMATOM Force — worldwide serial number 14 — the most advanced dual-source, dual-energy CT system available at the time of installation. This scanner simultaneously acquires up to 384 image slices with a scan rate as low as 2 milliseconds, capturing even rapidly moving structures such as the beating heart with minimal motion artefact. The dual-source design houses two X-ray tube and detector arrays offset at 90 degrees within the gantry, effectively doubling the temporal resolution compared to single-source systems. Dual-energy acquisition — where both tubes simultaneously emit at different kilovoltage levels — enables material decomposition post-processing: iodine maps distinguish vascular enhancement from calcium, virtual non-contrast images can be reconstructed retrospectively, and effective atomic number maps can characterise tissue composition in ways impossible with conventional CT. The SOMATOM Force's iterative reconstruction algorithms and dose-modulation technology reduce radiation exposure by up to 90 percent relative to older-generation CT scanners, while contrast medium volumes can be substantially reduced due to the scanner's high sensitivity. This means diagnostic-quality images with a radiation dose that in many protocols is comparable to or lower than conventional radiography. Frequent applications at Private Access Linz include chest CT for lung assessment (pulmonary nodule evaluation, bronchial carcinoma screening), abdominal CT for liver, pancreatic, renal, and bowel pathology, pelvic CT for gynaecological and urological indications, spinal CT for bone and disc disease, vascular CT for aortic and arterial assessment, dental CT (three-dimensional jaw imaging before implants), and osteoporosis CT (bone mineral density measurement). CT appointments are arranged with rapid scheduling and results transferred directly to the referring specialist via the patient portal.
