Brain MRI

Type

MRI Scan

Duration

30 min

3 Tesla MRI of the brain for precise structural imaging of the cerebral hemispheres, brainstem, cranial nerves, and posterior fossa. No referral required for private patients.

The brain MRI at Private Access Wien is performed on a Siemens MAGNETOM Verio 3 Tesla scanner — worldwide serial number 17 — with a 70-centimetre bore opening that substantially reduces the sense of enclosure during the examination. At 3T, the scanner delivers approximately double the signal strength of conventional 1.5T systems, producing sharper grey-white matter differentiation and improved detection of small lesions throughout the cerebral hemispheres, brainstem, basal ganglia, and posterior fossa. The standard brain protocol acquires T1-weighted, T2-weighted, FLAIR, and diffusion-weighted sequences in the axial, sagittal, and coronal planes. Together these cover the full spectrum of intracranial pathology: primary tumours and metastases, acute and chronic ischaemia, white-matter demyelination, congenital malformations, vascular malformations, and age-related volume changes. The FLAIR sequence is particularly sensitive for periventricular and subcortical white-matter signal changes that may indicate early multiple sclerosis or small-vessel disease. The Vienna radiology team is led by Univ. Prof. Dr. Dieter Szolar and Univ. Doz. Dr. Klaus Preidler, both habilitated radiologists with over 25 years of diagnostic imaging experience and more than 1,300 scientific publications collectively. Private patients do not need a referring doctor, and the patient portal allows direct download of digital image sets and reports. Appointments are scheduled rapidly — typically within 24 hours — and the examination takes 20 to 30 minutes. Results are transferred electronically to the patient's specialist, clinic, or hospital of choice.
