Ultrasound provides complementary information to mammography and is the preferred first-line examination for women under about 40, and for pregnant or breastfeeding women, because it uses no ionising radiation. It can detect small, non-palpable lesions and characterise findings seen on mammography (cyst vs. solid lesion). **Breast implant ultrasound — 1,000 Kč:** A dedicated check of implant integrity and the surrounding tissue for women after augmentation or reconstruction. **Screening vs. self-pay:** In the Czech screening programme, every insured woman aged 45+ is entitled to a free mammogram every two years (interval must exceed 2 years and 1 day) with a referral from her GP or gynaecologist; some insurers also contribute for women aged 40–45.
