Prostate MRI

A multiparametric prostate MRI (mpMRI) performed on a 3T scanner, using multiple imaging sequences to differentiate inflammatory, benign, and potentially malignant prostatic tissue with ultra-high resolution. The scan is indicated for elevated or rising PSA levels, ambiguous biopsy results, active surveillance protocols, and screening in men with a family history of prostate cancer.

Multiparametric prostate MRI combines T2-weighted imaging, diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), and dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) sequences to characterise prostatic tissue across multiple parameters simultaneously. The 3T field strength at Primenostics provides higher signal-to-noise ratios than 1.5T systems, which translates into finer spatial resolution — a critical advantage when evaluating small lesions or subtle tissue changes within the prostate gland. The examination is particularly valuable as a triage tool before biopsy: mpMRI can identify clinically significant cancer with high sensitivity, potentially sparing patients from unnecessary invasive procedures when findings are reassuring. For men already on active surveillance following a diagnosis of low-grade prostate cancer, serial mpMRI provides a non-invasive monitoring approach that tracks lesion size and diffusion characteristics over time. The scan typically takes approximately 40 minutes including contrast administration.
