Abdominal MRI

A 3T MRI of the abdomen covering the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, kidneys, and adrenal glands for detection of cysts, tumours, inflammatory conditions, and organ-specific pathology. Liver-specific contrast (Primovist) protocols are available for characterisation of focal liver lesions.

Abdominal MRI at Primenostics provides comprehensive cross-sectional imaging of the upper and lower abdominal organs using 3T field strength. The standard protocol evaluates the liver parenchyma, biliary system, pancreas, spleen, kidneys, adrenal glands, and major abdominal vessels. Indications range from investigation of incidental findings on ultrasound to screening for hepatic lesions, pancreatic cysts, renal masses, and inflammatory bowel disease. For patients requiring detailed liver characterisation, the practice offers Primovist (gadoxetic acid) enhanced protocols. This liver-specific contrast agent is taken up by functioning hepatocytes, enabling differentiation between benign lesions such as focal nodular hyperplasia and potentially malignant lesions including hepatocellular carcinoma and metastases. The hepatobiliary phase images acquired 20 minutes after injection provide information unavailable with standard extracellular contrast agents. Scan duration ranges from 25 to 45 minutes depending on the anatomical coverage and whether contrast enhancement is required. The 3T field strength delivers sharper delineation of small structures such as pancreatic duct anatomy and adrenal nodules compared to 1.5T systems. All abdominal imaging is interpreted by Dr. Walter, whose oncological imaging background and RECIST certification support systematic evaluation of any suspicious findings.
