Ortovize offers tooth extractions on-site — both simple extractions and surgical removal of impacted or retained teeth — as part of the pre-orthodontic preparation workflow. Having extraction capability in-house is convenient for orthodontic patients who need teeth removed to create space before aligner or brace treatment begins, avoiding the need to coordinate with a separate dental practice. Simple extractions are performed under local anaesthetic and take 15–30 minutes; impacted tooth removals are more involved and may require 30–60 minutes.
Tooth extraction is a routine part of orthodontic treatment preparation for some patients. When the dental arch does not have sufficient space to align all teeth correctly — particularly in cases of significant crowding — strategic removal of one or more teeth (typically upper and lower first premolars) creates the space needed for the remaining teeth to be moved into their ideal positions with aligners or braces. **Simple extraction (1,500 Kč):** Removal of a fully erupted tooth under local anaesthetic. The gum is numbed with a topical gel before the injection. The tooth is loosened and removed with forceps in a controlled rocking motion. Total chair time is usually 15–30 minutes. Post-operative discomfort resolves within 24–48 hours with over-the-counter analgesics. **Surgical extraction of impacted/retained tooth (3,000–5,000 Kč):** For teeth that have not fully erupted (impacted wisdom teeth, retained canines, or buried teeth), a surgical approach is required. A small incision is made in the gum to expose the tooth; bone may be reduced minimally with a surgical drill or piezotome to allow controlled removal in sections. Sutures close the site. Healing takes 7–10 days; mild swelling and discomfort for 2–3 days post-procedure are normal and managed with prescribed analgesics. The clinic uses a piezosurgery approach where appropriate, which is gentler on surrounding tissues. **Context in orthodontic treatment:** Extraction appointments are typically scheduled 2–4 weeks before aligner fitting to allow initial healing. The extraction space is then used by the aligner treatment to move adjacent teeth into alignment. **Team:** On-site oral and maxillofacial surgeon MUDr. et MDDr. Michele Bujda (dual-qualified in medicine and dentistry, 1st LF UK) performs surgical extractions; general dentist MUDr. Filip Šmucler handles simple extractions as required.
