A full skin survey by the oncologist, with dermatoscopic assessment of any suspicious or higher-risk lesions. Dermatoscopy uses a handheld, illuminated magnifying device — the clinic uses a DermLite DL III — to look beneath the surface of moles and skin lesions, revealing patterns invisible to the naked eye that help distinguish benign moles from changes that warrant attention. It is non-invasive and painless, and aims at early detection of malignant melanoma and dysplastic (atypical) moles. Images can be captured for archiving and later comparison, supporting follow-up of changing lesions over time.
This Skin Examination is a systematic, whole-body survey of the skin performed by the oncologist, with dermatoscopy used to assess any moles or lesions that look suspicious or carry higher risk. Dermatoscopy (also called dermoscopy) is a non-invasive technique that uses a handheld device combining magnification with controlled illumination — often polarised light — to see structures in the upper layers of the skin that are invisible to the naked eye. The patterns of pigment, vessels and structures revealed help to distinguish ordinary benign moles from atypical (dysplastic) naevi and from early melanoma, improving the accuracy of the assessment and reducing both missed lesions and unnecessary excisions. At Onkologie Bona Dea the examination uses a DermLite DL III, a professional handheld dermatoscope made by 3GEN in the USA. A useful feature is that it can be connected via an adapter to a digital camera, so images of individual lesions can be captured, archived and compared at future visits — which is especially valuable for monitoring a mole that needs watching over time. The examination itself is quick, painless and requires no preparation beyond removing make-up or coverings over the areas to be checked; the doctor surveys the skin, dermatoscopically examines anything of concern, and explains the findings on the day. The service suits people with many moles, those with atypical or changing moles, anyone with a personal or family history of melanoma or significant sun exposure, and people who simply want a professional skin check for peace of mind. For a single defined mole, the clinic offers a focused single-lesion dermatoscopy at 150 Kč (with each additional lesion +70 Kč); this fuller examination is the better choice when the whole skin should be surveyed. It is a preventive screening service: if the oncologist finds a lesion that needs removal or biopsy, the patient is advised on referral for that. The service is self-pay and conducted in Czech.
