Type

Thyroid Panel

Duration

10 min

A thyroid panel measuring TSH, free thyroxine (FT4) and — where indicated — anti-TPO antibodies to detect under- or over-active thyroid function. Available as a walk-in self-pay test at the accredited MZ-Biochem laboratory.

Thyroid disorders are common and frequently undiagnosed, producing non-specific symptoms such as fatigue, weight change, mood disturbance, hair loss and cold intolerance. The panel starts with TSH, the pituitary signal that rises when the thyroid is underactive and falls when it is overactive, alongside free thyroxine (FT4), the active thyroid hormone. Anti-thyroid-peroxidase (anti-TPO) antibodies can be added to identify autoimmune thyroid disease, which is particularly relevant in pregnancy and the postpartum period. MZ-Biochem runs thyroid diagnostics on electrochemiluminescence platforms and offers the panel on a self-pay basis with no referral. Thyroid results require physician interpretation, since treatment decisions depend on the full clinical picture; this test is a convenient way to screen or to monitor an established condition between specialist visits.
