Type
Liver Function Tests (LFTs)
Duration
10 min
A liver function panel measuring the key transaminase enzymes and related markers to check for liver stress or damage. Available as a walk-in self-pay test through the accredited MZ-Biochem laboratory.
Liver function tests measure enzymes and proteins that reflect the health of liver cells and the bile system. Raised transaminases (ALT and AST) and GGT can indicate liver stress from fatty liver disease, alcohol, certain medications or metabolic syndrome, often before any symptoms appear. Because the liver is involved in metabolising fats, sugars, hormones and drugs, a periodic liver check is a useful part of preventive monitoring, particularly for people who drink alcohol regularly, take long-term medication or are managing weight and metabolic health. MZ-Biochem offers the panel on a self-pay basis with no referral. Results are best reviewed by a physician, who can correlate them with lifestyle and any other findings and decide whether further investigation is warranted.
