Type
Iron Panel
Duration
10 min
An anaemia investigation panel combining a full blood count with iron studies (serum iron, ferritin and related markers) to identify iron deficiency and other causes of low haemoglobin. Available as a walk-in self-pay test at MZ-Biochem.
Anaemia — too few healthy red blood cells or too little haemoglobin — is a frequent cause of fatigue, breathlessness, pallor and reduced exercise tolerance, and iron deficiency is its most common driver. This panel pairs a complete blood count, which characterises the red cells and flags anaemia and its likely type, with iron studies including serum iron and ferritin (the body's iron stores), allowing the cause to be distinguished rather than just the low haemoglobin confirmed. MZ-Biochem runs both haematology and biochemistry in-house and offers the panel on a self-pay basis without a referral, which is useful for investigating persistent tiredness or for women with heavy periods who are prone to iron loss. Results require physician interpretation to identify the underlying cause and guide treatment or further testing.
