CT scanning at Multiscan Pardubice is performed on a Siemens Somatom X.cite — a modern wide-bore (82 cm) scanner with a 307 kg patient weight capacity, housed at the new 2025 Na Spravedlnosti facility. The system covers brain, chest, abdomen, pelvis, spine and extremity studies, with scanning times of approximately 10 minutes. The wide bore is beneficial for larger patients and for full oncological staging studies that cover multiple body regions. Self-pay and international patients book through Altoa Medical Tourism and require a physician referral sent in advance.
Computed tomography combines X-ray imaging acquired at multiple angles with computer reconstruction to generate detailed cross-sectional views of the body. Unlike plain X-ray, CT visualises internal organs, bone, soft tissue and blood vessels in three dimensions with high spatial resolution and speed, making it the standard modality for oncological staging, trauma assessment, vascular imaging and emergency investigation of stroke, pulmonary embolism and acute abdominal pathology. Multiscan Pardubice's CT facility was relocated to a new purpose-built space at Na Spravedlnosti 2912 in 2025. The Siemens Somatom X.cite offers an 82 cm wide gantry — significantly wider than the standard 70 cm bore of older CT models — which accommodates patients who may be excluded from narrower scanners and allows easier positioning for complex oncological studies. The 307 kg maximum weight limit is among the highest available in clinical practice. Scan acquisition time for a single body region is approximately 10 minutes, though preparation and positioning extend the total appointment time. Studies performed include brain CT (stroke, trauma, tumour, haemorrhage), chest CT (lung cancer staging, pulmonary embolism, lymph node assessment, interstitial lung disease), abdominal and pelvic CT (liver, pancreas, kidneys, bowel, gynaecological and urological indications), and combined multi-region staging scans. Spine and extremity studies are also offered. Contrast-enhanced studies require a blood test (urea and creatinine) before the scan to confirm adequate renal function; patients on biguanide diabetes medications such as metformin should discuss a 48-hour hold with their prescribing physician before contrast administration. Preparation for CT includes increased fluid intake for one to two days before the appointment, a 4-hour food fast before the scan, and avoidance of heavy meals. CT involves ionising radiation — typically in the 2–20 mSv range depending on the protocol and number of regions — and is used when clinically indicated rather than routinely for screening (lung CT is the exception, where low-dose protocol is specifically calibrated to minimise dose). All referrals must be sent in advance to [email protected]; walk-in CT is not available. Results are forwarded to the referring physician electronically; a printed copy is available at reception with ID. Self-pay coordination is handled by Altoa Medical Tourism, which provides English-language communication and individualised cost estimates.
