Joint MRI
Duration
40 min
Joint MRI at MR Centrum Titanium provides detailed imaging of the knee, shoulder, wrist and other joints, visualising cartilage, menisci, ligaments, tendons and bone marrow in a way no X-ray or ultrasound can match — and without radiation. It is the standard investigation for sports injuries, suspected meniscal or ligament tears, rotator cuff problems, unexplained joint pain and pre-surgical planning. Each joint is scanned in a 15–40 minute examination and reported by a musculoskeletal-subspecialised radiology team that includes several Ph.D.-level physicians. The centre's exclusive MRI focus keeps scheduling fast, with phone booking daily 8:00–16:00 at its central Brno location in the Titanium complex.
MRI is the definitive imaging method for joints because it depicts every tissue type involved in joint problems — hyaline cartilage, menisci and labra, cruciate and collateral ligaments, tendons, joint capsule, synovium, and the bone marrow beneath the joint surfaces — in a single radiation-free examination. **Common indications by joint:** *Knee:* suspected meniscal tears, anterior or posterior cruciate ligament injury, cartilage damage and early osteoarthritis assessment, unexplained swelling or locking, and post-injury evaluation when X-rays are normal but symptoms persist. *Shoulder:* rotator cuff tears and tendinopathy, impingement, labral injuries after dislocation, frozen shoulder work-up and unexplained chronic shoulder pain. *Wrist and hand:* ligament injuries (e.g. scapholunate), TFCC tears, occult fractures not visible on X-ray, ganglia and tendon pathology. Other joints — ankle, elbow, hip — can be discussed when booking by phone. **The centre:** MR Centrum Titanium is a newly opened (2026) private MRI-only centre in the Titanium business complex at Nové sady 25, central Brno. Musculoskeletal imaging is one of the team's strongest areas: MUDr. Radim Gerstberger, MUDr. Alena Štouračová, Ph.D., MUDr. Petr Nádeníček, Ph.D., MUDr. Danuše Chlumská and MUDr. Jana Šmídová all subspecialise in musculoskeletal radiology, under professional guarantor doc. MUDr. Andrea Šprláková-Puková, Ph.D. — herself a senior musculoskeletal and general MRI expert. **The examination:** Arrive 15 minutes early with your referral and insurance card. After consent and the metal-safety questionnaire (Czech or English), you change into metal-free clothing and remove jewellery, watches and other metallic items. The joint being examined is positioned in a dedicated coil and must remain completely still for the 15–40 minute scan; you wear hearing protection and hold a signalling balloon for communication, with the technician observing you throughout. Contrast is rarely needed for routine joint MRI but can be administered intravenously when specifically indicated. **Practical notes:** No fasting is required unless advised. Implants are generally acceptable 6 weeks after surgery or with documented MR compatibility — orthopaedic hardware near the scanned joint may cause local image artefacts, so mention it when booking. Children from age 6 who can lie still are examined with a parent present. **Results:** The study is reported by the musculoskeletal team and the report is provided to you or your referring physician — a sound basis for orthopaedic consultation, physiotherapy planning or surgical decision-making.

What's Included
Preparation Required
Arrive 15 minutes early with your referral and insurance card. Wear comfortable cotton clothing without metal parts; remove all jewellery and metal items. No fasting required unless advised. Declare orthopaedic hardware and other implants in the safety questionnaire — implants are usually fine 6+ weeks post-surgery or with proof of MR compatibility. Keep the examined joint completely still during the scan.
Approximately 6,000 Kč per joint for self-pay patients — the typical Czech private-MRI baseline; the centre does not publish an online price list, so confirm the exact price when booking by phone. A 50% trial-operation discount on MR examinations ran until mid-June 2026.
