Tooth Extraction

Type

Extraction

Duration

30 min

Removal of a tooth that cannot be saved because of extensive decay, fracture, advanced gum disease or crowding. Routine extractions at Medin are carried out under local anaesthetic by the practice's dentists, with the fee depending on whether the tooth has a single root or several. The dentist explains aftercare to support healing and can discuss options for replacing the tooth, such as a bridge or implant, where appropriate.

A dental extraction is the removal of a tooth that is beyond saving or is causing problems — common reasons include deep decay or a fracture that cannot be restored, severe gum disease that has loosened the tooth, or crowding being addressed as part of an orthodontic plan. At Medin Stomatologia routine extractions are performed under local anaesthetic so the area is fully numb; the dentist gently loosens the tooth and removes it, and the fee reflects whether it is a simpler single-rooted tooth or a multi-rooted one. Before the procedure the dentist reviews the tooth, often with an on-site X-ray, to plan the safest approach. Afterwards you are given clear aftercare instructions — biting on gauze to control bleeding, avoiding rinsing, smoking and hot drinks for the first day, and keeping the area clean — to help the socket heal and reduce the risk of a painful dry socket. Mild discomfort and swelling for a few days is normal and is managed with simple pain relief. Where a tooth is removed from a visible or functional position, the dentist can talk through replacement options such as a denture, bridge or dental implant so you can decide what suits you. Baby (primary) teeth in children are removed at a lower fee. More involved cases — impacted or retained teeth and wisdom teeth — are handled as surgical extractions and quoted separately.
