Root Canal Treatment (Endodontics)

Type

Root Canal

Duration

2 hours

Root canal treatment removes infected or inflamed tissue from inside a tooth, cleans and shapes the canals and seals them, allowing a tooth that would otherwise need extraction to be kept. Medin uses modern endodontic equipment and warm gutta-percha filling techniques for a dense seal. Pricing is set by the number of canals in the tooth, with separate fees for retreating a tooth that was root-filled previously.

Endodontic, or root canal, treatment is carried out when the soft tissue (pulp) inside a tooth becomes infected or irreversibly inflamed — usually from deep decay, a crack or trauma. Left untreated this can cause pain and abscesses and often leads to losing the tooth. The aim of treatment is to remove the diseased pulp, disinfect and shape the fine canals inside the roots, and fill them to seal the space, so the natural tooth can be saved and restored. At Medin Stomatologia the procedure is performed under local anaesthetic using modern endodontic instruments, with the canals filled using a warm gutta-percha technique that adapts closely to the canal walls for a dense seal. The number of appointments and the fee depend on how many canals the tooth has — front teeth typically have one, while molars often have three or more. The practice also treats teeth that were root-filled previously but have failed, known as retreatment, which is more complex and priced accordingly. On-site imaging, including 3D cone-beam scans where needed, helps assess canal anatomy. After root canal treatment a tooth is often more brittle and is frequently restored with a crown or substantial filling to protect it long term; the dentist will advise on the right restoration. Some tenderness for a few days afterwards is normal and usually settles with simple pain relief.
