Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF)

Type

PRP/PRF Therapy

Duration

30 min

Platelet-rich fibrin uses a small sample of your own blood, spun to concentrate platelets and fibrin, which is then placed at a surgical site to support natural healing. At Medin it is offered as an adjunct to oral surgery and implant procedures. Because the material is autologous — entirely derived from you — it is well tolerated, and the dentist will advise when it may be helpful as part of a treatment.

Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is a regenerative technique that uses the body's own healing components to support recovery after oral surgery. A small sample of your blood is taken and spun in a centrifuge to separate a fibrin clot rich in platelets and growth factors. This concentrate is then placed into an extraction socket, around an implant or at another surgical site, where it is thought to support the body's natural healing and soft-tissue recovery. Because PRF is prepared entirely from your own blood, there is no foreign material involved, which makes it very well tolerated. At Medin Stomatologia PRF is offered as an adjunct rather than a stand-alone treatment, typically in connection with extractions, implant placement or other minor oral surgery carried out at the clinic. Preparing it adds only a short step to the appointment — the blood draw and spinning take a few minutes while the surgical procedure is performed. The dentist will advise whether PRF is likely to be useful in your particular case; it is most often considered where supporting healing of the socket or surgical site is a priority. As with any procedure involving a blood draw, suitability is checked beforehand. PRF does not replace the underlying treatment and is always used alongside the relevant surgical or implant procedure, which is quoted separately.
