Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is a regenerative technique that uses the body's own healing components to support recovery after oral surgery. A small sample of your blood is taken and spun in a centrifuge to separate a fibrin clot rich in platelets and growth factors. This concentrate is then placed into an extraction socket, around an implant or at another surgical site, where it is thought to support the body's natural healing and soft-tissue recovery. Because PRF is prepared entirely from your own blood, there is no foreign material involved, which makes it very well tolerated. Preparing it adds only a short step to the appointment — the blood draw and spinning take a few minutes while the surgical procedure is performed. The dentist will advise whether PRF is likely to be useful in your particular case; it is most often considered where supporting healing of the socket or surgical site is a priority.
