CT Scan

Type

CT Scan

Duration

20 min

Low-dose CT scanning of the brain, neck, chest, abdomen, or other anatomical region using a latest-generation scanner that produces high-resolution 2D and 3D reconstructions with minimal radiation exposure. Examinations typically complete in 5–20 minutes.

Medimage SA operates a latest-generation CT scanner in the heart of Geneva's Champel district, providing high-resolution cross-sectional imaging of the entire body — bones, blood vessels, organs, and soft tissues — with a radiation dose kept as low as practically achievable through modern dose-reduction technology. CT scanning at Medimage uses a fan of X-ray beams to acquire images in thin transverse sections that are subsequently reconstructed into two-dimensional slices and three-dimensional volume renderings. This multi-planar reconstruction capability makes CT uniquely useful for delineating anatomy with millimetre-level precision, making it an essential tool for detecting tumours, characterising abscesses, assessing trauma injuries, evaluating vascular disease, and planning interventional or surgical procedures. The most common examinations performed include: brain CT for headache, stroke, and trauma assessment; neck CT for lymphadenopathy and soft-tissue masses; chest CT for pulmonary nodule evaluation, lung cancer staging, pulmonary embolism detection, and pleural disease characterisation; and abdominal CT for liver, pancreatic, renal, and gastrointestinal pathology. Each acquisition protocol is selected by the examining radiologist to match the clinical question — optimising both diagnostic yield and radiation dose for that specific indication. For examinations of the brain, neck, chest, or abdomen where a contrast agent is needed, patients are asked to fast for three hours beforehand. Some examinations — particularly virtual colonoscopy and cardiac protocols — have dedicated preparation instructions that the practice communicates at the time of booking. For most other regions of the body, no preparation is required at all. Any prior allergy to iodine-based contrast agents must be declared before the appointment. If an injection is anticipated, current kidney function tests (serum creatinine) should be available; the practice will advise on specific requirements when the appointment is scheduled. The examination is supervised throughout by one of Medimage's six specialist radiologists, who issue a signed written findings report. The centre has been delivering medical imaging in Geneva since 1973, and its team includes specialists with expertise across neuroradiology, cardiovascular imaging, musculoskeletal radiology, and interventional procedures. Swiss health insurance (KVG/LAMal) covers medically indicated CT scans when referred by a treating physician. Private CT without referral is available on a self-pay basis. Prices are available on request; estimates for common examinations are in the CHF 350–600 range depending on the body region and whether contrast is used.
