Blood Testing

Duration

À-la-carte tumour-marker blood testing for self-payers at Masarykův onkologický ústav, selected to age, sex and personal risk rather than sold as a fixed bundle. Available markers include PSA and free PSA (prostate), CEA (broad-spectrum), AFP and hCG (germ-cell/liver), and CA 125, CA 15-3 and CA 19-9 (ovarian, breast and pancreatic/GI). Run by the institute's oncology laboratory, the markers are best interpreted alongside an oncologist consultation rather than read in isolation. Useful for monitoring known risk or complementing a preventive screen, with the same markers also embedded in the institute's full preventive checkup.

This service covers self-payer tumour-marker blood testing at Czechia's national comprehensive cancer centre. Rather than a fixed panel, MOÚ prices each marker individually so an oncologist can select the combination relevant to a person's age, sex, symptoms and family history — the approach recommended for tumour markers, which are most informative in context. The available markers cover the main clinical uses: PSA and free PSA for prostate assessment in men; CEA as a broad-spectrum marker associated with colorectal and several other cancers; AFP and hCG for germ-cell and liver contexts; and CA 125, CA 15-3 and CA 19-9 for ovarian, breast and pancreatic/gastrointestinal contexts respectively. Additional markers such as NSE, SCC, CYFRA, HE4/ROMA, CA 72-4 and beta-2-microglobulin are also available from the institute's price list for specific indications. Sampling is a standard venous blood draw, added once per visit; individual marker prices range from roughly 220 to 950 Kč. Results come from the institute's accredited oncology laboratory. Because a raised marker can occur in benign conditions and a normal marker does not exclude cancer, these tests are not a stand-alone screen — they are most valuable for monitoring a known risk, following a previously elevated value, or complementing a broader assessment. MOÚ recommends pairing marker testing with an oncologist consultation so results are interpreted correctly, and the same markers are built into the institute's comprehensive preventive checkup for those who want a fuller picture in one visit. No special preparation is generally required beyond any instructions for specific markers; bring prior results so trends can be assessed.
