Duration

A structured second opinion from a Masarykův onkologický ústav clinical oncologist, based on the medical records the patient supplies — diagnostic reports, hospitalisation summaries, diagnoses and proposed treatment plan. It is a documentary review rather than a clinical examination, useful before committing to a treatment plan made elsewhere. The institute also offers expert histology second-readings of tissue samples, priced by case complexity from a small biopsy through to comparison of multiple tumour foci. Provided within a JCI-accredited, OECI-designated comprehensive cancer centre. Note that MOÚ does not re-read CT, MR or PET-CT imaging done at other facilities.
A second medical opinion at MOÚ gives patients an independent expert review of an existing cancer diagnosis and treatment plan before they commit to a course of care. It is aimed at people — including international patients — who have been diagnosed or had a treatment proposed elsewhere and want a second, specialist perspective from one of Europe's OECI-designated comprehensive cancer centres. The core service is a clinical oncologist's review of the documentation the patient brings: outpatient and hospitalisation reports, the stated diagnosis, prior results and the proposed treatment plan. The oncologist assesses whether the diagnosis and plan are consistent with current standards and issues a documented opinion. Importantly, this is a records-based review and does not include a clinical examination — patients who also want to be examined should book the oncologist consultation alongside it. For tissue diagnoses, the institute's pathologists offer histology second-readings at tiers matched to case complexity: re-evaluation of a small diagnostic sample such as a punch or endoscopic micro-excision; review of a fully resected tumour or a differential work-up for cancer of unknown primary; and the most detailed option, a comparison of two or more tumour foci. These re-readings can confirm or revise a histological diagnosis that drives major treatment decisions. To prepare, gather complete and legible copies of all relevant reports, the diagnosis, the treatment plan and — for histology re-reads — the original tissue blocks or slides as instructed by the institute. One limitation to note: MOÚ provides second opinions on its own diagnostic and treatment assessments and on outside histology, but does not perform second readings of CT, MR or PET-CT imaging carried out at other facilities. The output is an expert opinion to inform decision-making, not a treatment in itself.
