Type

MRI Scan

Duration

45 min

Self-payer magnetic resonance imaging at Masarykův onkologický ústav, a JCI-accredited comprehensive cancer centre with oncology-grade radiodiagnostics. MRI uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves — no ionising radiation — to produce high-contrast images of soft tissue, making it valuable for the brain, spine, joints and abdominal or pelvic organs. The flat 10,500 Kč rate covers most single-region studies without contrast, with paramagnetic contrast, MR angiography and supplementary sequences available as add-ons. Scans are reported by the institute's radiologists. Available to self-payers and foreign patients outside the insurance pathway.

Masarykův onkologický ústav offers self-payer MRI within its oncology radiodiagnostics department. Magnetic resonance imaging uses a strong magnetic field and radiofrequency pulses — not ionising radiation — to generate detailed cross-sectional images, and it excels at soft-tissue contrast: brain and spinal cord, joints and musculoskeletal structures, and abdominal and pelvic organs including the breast and scrotum. The institute's pricing is region-based. A single study of the head, a limb, a joint or one spine segment (cervical, thoracic or lumbar) is 10,500 Kč without contrast, and the same rate applies to neck, chest, abdomen or pelvis. Where the clinical question requires it, paramagnetic gadolinium-based contrast can be added for 2,000 Kč to highlight vascularity and lesions; MR angiography to image blood vessels is 13,500 Kč; and a repeat or supplementary MR (for example, additional sequences or a short-interval follow-up) is 6,500 Kč. A typical single-region scan takes around 30–60 minutes depending on the protocol and whether contrast is used. Patients lie still inside the scanner bore while sequences are acquired; the machine is noisy, so hearing protection is provided. Because of the magnetic field, you must declare any pacemaker, implanted device, metal fragments or surgical clips, and remove all metal objects before entering — these are key safety contraindications. If contrast is planned, recent kidney-function results may be requested. Fasting is generally only required for certain abdominal protocols. Images are interpreted by the institute's radiologists, with the report available to the patient and any treating physician. As a self-payer service it is open to foreign patients and those without Czech insurance.
