Type

CT Scan

Duration

30 min

Self-payer contrast-enhanced computed tomography at Masarykův onkologický ústav, a JCI-accredited comprehensive cancer centre. CT uses X-rays acquired from many angles to build detailed cross-sectional images, and intravenous contrast highlights blood vessels, organs and lesions to improve detection and characterisation. Performed and reported by the institute's oncology radiodiagnostics team. Useful for evaluating the chest, abdomen, pelvis and other regions where high-resolution, contrast-enhanced anatomy is needed. Open to foreign patients and those without Czech insurance.

Masarykův onkologický ústav provides self-payer contrast-enhanced CT through its oncology radiodiagnostics department. Computed tomography acquires X-ray images from many angles and reconstructs them into detailed cross-sectional slices; intravenous iodinated contrast is given to highlight blood vessels, organ perfusion and lesions, which improves both detection and characterisation compared with an unenhanced scan. This makes contrast CT a workhorse for assessing the chest, abdomen and pelvis, vascular structures and suspected or known tumours. The self-payer price of 5,000 Kč covers the contrast-enhanced study and radiologist interpretation. A typical scan is quick — often only a few minutes of acquisition within a 30-minute appointment that includes positioning and the contrast injection. The patient lies on a moving table that passes through the ring-shaped scanner while images are captured; the contrast may cause a brief warm sensation as it is injected. Because contrast is iodinated and cleared by the kidneys, recent kidney-function results may be requested, and patients should declare any prior reaction to contrast media, significant allergies, kidney disease, or relevant medication. CT uses ionising radiation, so it is used where the diagnostic benefit justifies it. Fasting for a few hours beforehand is commonly advised for abdominal studies. Images are read by the institute's radiologists, who issue a report to the patient and any treating physician, and findings can be channelled directly into MOÚ's diagnostic and multidisciplinary oncology pathways. As a self-payer service it is available to foreign patients and those without Czech insurance. Note that MOÚ does not provide second readings of CT performed at other facilities — this price is for a scan acquired at the institute.
