PRP Hair Treatment
Duration
1 hour
PRP scalp injections for hair restoration at Liondale Medical on Manhattan's Upper West Side, using concentrated platelet-rich plasma injected into the scalp to stimulate hair follicle activity and reduce hair thinning. Combined with stem cell and exosome treatments as needed. If hair loss is hormone-driven, BHRT and IV nutritional therapy are incorporated. Supervised by Dr. Lionel Bissoon D.O., who also manages the underlying hormonal and nutritional causes of hair loss.
Liondale Medical's hair loss program takes an integrative, root-cause approach to hair restoration that distinguishes it from clinics offering PRP scalp injections alone. Dr. Lionel Bissoon D.O. evaluates hair loss from multiple contributing angles — androgenetic (hormonal), nutritional, inflammatory, and cellular regenerative — and constructs a treatment plan that addresses each relevant factor for the individual patient. The primary regenerative intervention is PRP (platelet-rich plasma) scalp injection, in which blood is drawn from the patient, centrifuged to produce a platelet-concentrated plasma fraction at 3–5 times the normal platelet density, and injected in a grid pattern across areas of hair thinning on the scalp. The concentrated growth factors in PRP — including PDGF, VEGF, IGF-1, and TGF-β — are proposed to stimulate quiescent hair follicles from the telogen (resting) phase back toward the anagen (active growth) phase, improve follicle vascular supply, and reduce the miniaturization of follicles characteristic of androgenetic alopecia. For patients where PRP alone is insufficient or where systemic regenerative enhancement is desired, stem cell treatments and exosome infusions are available as adjuncts. Exosomes from placental tissue delivered intravenously carry signaling molecules that may modulate inflammatory and regenerative pathways relevant to follicle health. Critically, if laboratory evaluation reveals that the patient's hair loss is driven by hormonal imbalance — such as elevated DHT, low estrogen, hypothyroidism, or DHEA-S deficiency — Dr. Bissoon incorporates bioidentical hormone replacement therapy into the program. IV nutritional therapy addressing vitamin and mineral deficiencies known to contribute to hair shedding (biotin, zinc, iron, B12, vitamin D, amino acids) may also be included. This multi-modal approach is consistent with the clinic's general philosophy of treating root causes rather than surface symptoms.
