A 60-minute ganbanyoku session on heated volcanic stone beds emitting far-infrared heat and negative ions, following the traditional Japanese hot stone bathing practice for gentle detoxification, relaxation, and mineral absorption.
Ganbanyoku (岩盤浴, literally 'bedrock bathing') is a traditional Japanese wellness practice that involves lying on heated slabs of mineral-rich volcanic stone — typically black silica (hokutolite), lava stone, or other geologically active minerals. Unlike conventional saunas that heat the air to extreme temperatures (80-100°C), ganbanyoku heats the body from below through direct contact with the stone surface and far-infrared radiation, operating at much gentler temperatures (typically 40-50°C surface temperature). This makes it accessible to people who find conventional saunas uncomfortably hot or who have cardiovascular conditions that contraindicate extreme heat exposure. The heated volcanic stones emit far-infrared radiation — electromagnetic waves in the 5-15 micrometre range that penetrate several centimetres into body tissue, raising core body temperature gradually from the inside out rather than heating the skin surface first. This deeper heating pattern produces a qualitatively different sweat response: ganbanyoku sweat is reportedly lower in surface oils and higher in heavy metals and toxins compared to conventional sauna sweat, though more research is needed to confirm this distinction. The stones also emit negative ions, which are claimed in Japanese wellness tradition to improve mood, reduce fatigue, and enhance air quality. While the scientific evidence for negative ion therapy is mixed, the practice has deep cultural roots in Japan where ganbanyoku facilities (often called 'gan-ban' or 'bedrock bath') are widespread and used by millions as a regular wellness maintenance practice. Lewitarium's ganbanyoku is one of very few authentic Japanese stone sauna facilities in Poland, making it a distinctive offering in the Warsaw wellness landscape. The 60-minute session at 100 PLN (approximately €23) is the studio's most affordable treatment, and an extended HOT MAX 120-minute option is available at 150 PLN for those seeking a deeper heat therapy experience. The gentle, dry-heat format makes ganbanyoku an excellent complement to float sessions — many clients book both treatments in sequence, using the stone sauna to warm and loosen muscles before entering the float cabin for deep relaxation.
