The dermatologist selects a product with appropriate viscosity for the area: a low-G′ filler for fine surface lines, a slightly firmer gel for volumising the body of the lips, and a cohesive product for border definition. Minor swelling peaks within 24–48 hours and resolves within five to seven days, after which the final volume and shape are apparent. Contraindications include active oral herpes (prophylactic antivirals should be taken beforehand), autoimmune conditions and long-term systemic corticosteroids.
