Hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal fillers restore volume and structure to areas of the face that lose fullness or definition with age. HA is a naturally occurring substance in skin tissue; when injected as a cross-linked gel, it integrates with the surrounding tissue, attracts water and provides soft, flexible support that closely mimics natural facial fat. Unlike botulinum toxin, which targets muscle activity, fillers physically fill the space underneath a line or hollow, making them the first choice for static lines, volume loss and contouring. At Laser Esthetic the dermatology team selects from a portfolio of established HA brands — RESTYLANE and PERLANE (Q-Med/Galderma), TEOSYAL (Teoxane) and JUVÉDERM (Allergan) — choosing the product viscosity and gel density appropriate to the injection depth and location. Thicker, more cohesive gels are used for deeper structural support (cheeks, chin, jawline), while lighter, lower-G′ formulations suit superficial fine lines and delicate areas. Anaesthesia is always offered: EMLA cream applied 30–45 minutes before, or a local injection block for more sensitive areas. Common treatment areas include the nasolabial folds (nose-to-mouth furrows), marionette lines, forehead, upper lip lines, lip border definition, sunken temples, cheeks and chin. Results are visible immediately and improve slightly as any swelling subsides over 24–72 hours. Duration depends on product type, the metabolic rate of the patient and the area injected; most HA fillers last six to twelve months. At follow-up, residual filler can be topped up, or hyaluronidase enzyme can dissolve a result if needed — a safety advantage HA has over permanent fillers. Contraindications include autoimmune disease and long-term systemic corticosteroid use, which the dermatologist reviews at consultation.
