Salt Therapy (Halotherapy)

Salt therapy — also known as halotherapy — involves sitting in a controlled environment where pharmaceutical-grade sodium chloride is ground into microscopic particles and dispersed into the air using a halogenerator. The resulting salt aerosol is inhaled during the session, allowing the fine salt particles to reach the respiratory tract.

The practice has origins in Eastern European salt cave traditions, where workers in salt mines were observed to have fewer respiratory complaints than the general population. Modern halotherapy rooms replicate this environment in a controlled setting, with walls and floors often lined with Himalayan or Dead Sea salt to create an immersive atmosphere.

Proponents of salt therapy suggest that the inhaled salt particles may support mucociliary clearance (the mechanism by which the respiratory tract removes mucus and trapped particles), reduce inflammation in the airways, and have mild antibacterial properties.
