A porcelain crown is a tooth-shaped cap that covers and protects a tooth that is heavily filled, root-treated, cracked or worn, restoring its strength and appearance. FROE uses metal-free zirconia (CERCON) substructures for natural translucency and strength, with the crown crafted in the clinic's on-site ceramic laboratory. The in-house workflow lets the dentist and technician match shade and shape closely to the rest of your smile.
A dental crown is a custom-made cap that fits over the whole visible part of a tooth. It is used when a tooth is too damaged for a simple filling, after root canal treatment, or to improve the shape and colour of a worn or discoloured tooth. By enclosing the tooth, a crown restores its strength and protects what remains, while a well-made ceramic crown is hard to distinguish from the natural teeth around it. At FROE the tooth is first prepared by removing decay and shaping it to receive the crown; where a tooth is badly broken down, a glass-fibre or cast post and core may be built up first to support the restoration. An impression or scan is taken, and the on-site ESTODENT laboratory fabricates the crown using a zirconia (CERCON) substructure layered with porcelain, a metal-free approach associated with good strength and natural light transmission. A temporary crown protects the tooth in the meantime. At the fitting visit the crown is tried in, the shade and bite are checked, and it is cemented in place. Having the laboratory on site allows the dentist and ceramist to refine the result together. A crown is cared for like a natural tooth with thorough brushing, cleaning between the teeth and regular check-ups; the dentist will advise on longevity and any factors specific to your tooth.
