FROE's session combines ultrasonic scaling, air-polishing, fluoride application and polishing, using an EMS Airflow system. It is recommended regularly for most patients and is a sensible first step before whitening or other cosmetic treatment.

Even with good brushing, hardened deposits of plaque (tartar or calculus) build up over time, particularly along the gumline and between the teeth, and can contribute to gum inflammation and bad breath. A professional dental hygiene appointment removes these deposits and refreshes the teeth in ways home care cannot, and is one of the most effective everyday measures for keeping teeth and gums healthy. At FROE a hygiene visit combines several steps. Ultrasonic scaling breaks up and removes tartar from the teeth and just below the gumline; air-polishing, sometimes called sandblasting, uses a fine jet of powder and water from the clinic's EMS Airflow system to lift away soft deposits and surface stains from coffee, tea, wine and tobacco; a fluoride application then helps strengthen the enamel; and the teeth are polished smooth, which makes it harder for plaque to re-accumulate. The result is cleaner, smoother teeth, fresher breath and often a naturally brighter look as staining is removed, although a hygiene clean lightens by removing stains rather than bleaching the tooth itself. Regular hygiene visits are associated with better long-term gum health and are a recommended foundation before cosmetic treatments such as whitening or veneers.
