Root Canal
Duration

Root canal (endodontic) treatment removes infected or inflamed tissue from inside a tooth, cleans and seals the canals, and allows a natural tooth to be kept rather than extracted. Exacto Clinic carries out endodontics under a dental microscope for improved visibility of the fine canal anatomy. Pricing reflects the number of canals — from single-canal front teeth to multi-canal molars — and a reinforced core build-up can be added to prepare the tooth for a crown.
Root canal treatment, or endodontics, treats the soft tissue (pulp) inside a tooth when it becomes inflamed or infected — often through deep decay, a crack or trauma. The aim is to relieve pain, clear infection and preserve the natural tooth by removing the damaged pulp, disinfecting and shaping the root canals, and filling and sealing them. Exacto Clinic performs endodontic work under a dental operating microscope, which magnifies and illuminates the canal system and is associated with more thorough location and cleaning of the often narrow and branching canals. The number of canals varies by tooth: front teeth usually have one, premolars one or two, and molars three or more, which is why pricing rises from single-canal incisors and canines through to molars. Treatment is carried out under local anaesthetic and may be completed in one or more visits depending on the tooth and the level of infection. Where a previous root filling has failed, re-treatment (reendo) can be undertaken, and difficult cases such as additional or calcified canals or a fractured instrument left by prior treatment may add to the work. Because a root-treated tooth can become more brittle, the clinic offers a reinforced core build-up and frequently recommends a subsequent crown to protect it. The endodontist confirms the diagnosis, the number of canals and the plan, typically with the aid of imaging.
