Root canal treatment, or endodontics, treats the soft tissue (pulp) inside a tooth when it becomes inflamed or infected — often through deep decay, a crack or trauma. The aim is to relieve pain, clear infection and preserve the natural tooth by removing the damaged pulp, disinfecting and shaping the root canals, and filling and sealing them.
