Composite Filling (Light-Cured)

A composite filling repairs a tooth affected by decay, wear or a small fracture using a tooth-coloured resin that bonds to the tooth and is hardened with a curing light. A composite (white) filling restores a tooth that has been damaged by decay, wear, erosion or a minor fracture. After any decay is removed, the cavity is built back up with a tooth-coloured resin that is bonded to the tooth and set hard with a curing light, then shaped and polished to match the natural contour and shade. Because the material is bonded and tooth-coloured, composite fillings are both functional and discreet, and conserve healthy tooth structure compared with some older approaches. The procedure is usually completed in a single visit under local anaesthetic if needed, and the tooth can generally be used normally soon afterwards. Where a tooth needs to be stabilised before fuller treatment, a temporary dressing can be placed to protect it for up to several months.
