Laser Hair Removal

Permanent hair reduction using the Lumenis LightSheer Duet diode laser, an FDA-cleared system that targets the pigment in the hair follicle through selective photothermolysis while a cooled handpiece protects the surrounding skin. Laser hair removal works by selective photothermolysis: the laser emits light at a wavelength absorbed by the melanin pigment in the hair shaft and follicle, where it converts to heat and disables the follicle's ability to regrow hair, while the surrounding skin is left intact. Effect Clinic uses the Lumenis LightSheer Duet, an FDA-cleared diode laser with an integrated cooled handpiece and contact gel that protect the skin surface, making the treatment safe for lighter skin phototypes I to IV without the burn risk associated with older systems. Before your first session the clinic carries out a free consultation in which trained staff assess your skin colour, the density and colour of the hair, and the area to be treated, then set the laser parameters accordingly. Because hair grows in cycles and the laser only disables follicles in their active growth phase, a course of several sessions spaced weeks apart is needed to treat each area thoroughly; the number depends on the body region and individual hair growth. Treatment of small zones such as the upper lip takes only a few minutes, while larger areas like the legs take longer. During the session you feel a mild stinging sensation as each pulse fires; for sensitive areas such as the bikini line an EMLA topical anaesthetic cream is available. Preparation matters for results: do not pluck, wax or epilate the area for four to six weeks beforehand, as the follicle must be intact for the laser to target it, but shaving, trimming or depilatory cream up to two or three days before is fine. You can resume normal activity immediately after treatment. Results build over the course, with progressive thinning and reduction of hair; repeat sessions become significantly cheaper as fewer hairs remain to treat.
