Hyperhidrosis treatment uses botulinum toxin to interrupt the nerve signals that drive overactive sweat glands. Injected into the skin of the affected area, the toxin prevents the release of acetylcholine, the chemical messenger that would otherwise stimulate the sweat glands; with that signal blocked, sweat production in the treated area is markedly reduced or stopped. Aftercare is simple and region-specific: on the day of treatment avoid intense physical exertion, the sauna, steam and the solarium, and after underarm treatment postpone hair removal in the area for a few days.
