CT Angiography
Duration
30 min
Contrast-enhanced CT imaging of the coronary arteries to detect blockages, narrowing, and vascular abnormalities. Produces detailed three-dimensional vessel maps within seconds.
CT angiography at DIE RADIOLOGIE uses intravenous iodine-based contrast dye and multi-slice CT to create high-resolution, three-dimensional maps of the coronary and, where indicated, peripheral arterial systems. The technique can identify significant narrowing (stenosis), plaque composition, and anatomical anomalies that conventional stress testing may miss. The acquisition takes only seconds, with the contrast agent administered through a peripheral IV line moments before scanning. Post-processing software reconstructs the raw data into vessel-specific views that the reporting radiologist uses to grade the degree and location of any disease. The combined approach of calcium scoring plus angiography is particularly powerful: the calcium score provides overall atherosclerotic burden, while the angiogram shows whether calcified or non-calcified plaques are causing haemodynamically significant narrowing. DIE RADIOLOGIE's centre-of-excellence certification for cardiac imaging ensures that its angiography protocols meet German Radiological Society quality benchmarks for spatial resolution, dose management, and diagnostic accuracy. The service is available at four Munich locations, with results typically delivered on the same day. The iodine-based contrast agent is generally well tolerated, with allergic reactions being rare. Patients must provide current kidney function and thyroid values before the examination, as iodine can affect thyroid function and impaired kidney function increases the risk of contrast-induced nephropathy. Current kidney and TSH values should be no older than six weeks.
