Type

Cardiac CT

Duration

30 min

Non-invasive CT imaging of the heart and coronary arteries using latest-generation multi-slice technology. Combines coronary calcium measurement with contrast-enhanced angiography to assess coronary artery disease, narrowing, and calcification without cardiac catheterisation.

Cardiac CT at DIE RADIOLOGIE provides a comprehensive, non-invasive assessment of the coronary arteries that serves as an alternative to diagnostic cardiac catheterisation. The examination follows a two-stage protocol: first, a non-contrast coronary calcium scan quantifies arterial calcification as an independent cardiovascular risk marker, then a contrast-enhanced CT angiography maps the coronary arteries in three-dimensional detail to identify narrowing, blockages, and anomalies. The scan itself takes only a few seconds of acquisition time, though the full appointment including preparation and monitoring is longer. DIE RADIOLOGIE performs cardiac CT at four Munich-area locations — München Zentrum, ISAR Klinikum, Arabellapark, and Praxis am Schäfflerhof — all equipped with latest-generation multi-slice scanners. Dr. Patrick Hein leads the cardiac imaging team as a specialist in cardiac CT diagnostics. DIE RADIOLOGIE holds certification as a centre of excellence for cardiac imaging from the German Radiological Society, reflecting high examination volumes and specialist training that contribute to diagnostic accuracy. Since January 2025, cardiac CT is covered by German statutory health insurance for patients with a pre-test probability of 15 to 50 percent for coronary heart disease, or before non-coronary heart surgery. Self-pay patients can access the service without a referral for broader indications. Patients should avoid caffeine, chocolate, bananas, and nicotine for 24 hours before the examination. No fasting is required. Current kidney and thyroid function values must be available, as the iodine-based contrast agent requires baseline checks. PDE-5 inhibitors should be discontinued five days prior. Results are typically available within minutes of the scan, enabling same-day clinical decisions.
