Excessive Sweating Treatment (Botulinum Toxin)
Type
Botox & Fillers
Duration
30 min
An injectable treatment for excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) that uses botulinum toxin to temporarily switch off the overactive sweat glands in a treated area. It is most commonly used for the armpits, but the palms and soles can also be treated. At DENIFE the toxin is delivered through a fine needle under local anaesthesia by MUDr. Hana Plachá in a quick, almost painless session, giving relief from sweating and the staining and odour that come with it for several months at a time.
Excessive sweating, or hyperhidrosis, is sweating beyond what the body needs to regulate temperature, and it can be socially and professionally distressing. Botulinum toxin treats it by temporarily blocking the chemical signal that activates the eccrine sweat glands in the treated skin, so they produce far less sweat. The armpits are the most commonly treated area, but the palms of the hands and the soles of the feet can also be addressed. At DENIFE the treatment starts with a consultation to confirm the diagnosis and map the affected area. Local anaesthesia is applied and a grid of small injections is placed just under the skin with a very fine needle; the procedure is described as almost painless and takes around half an hour. As with cosmetic botulinum toxin, the effect is not instant — sweating begins to reduce within two to three days, reaches its full effect at about 15 days, and the dry interval typically lasts three to six months before the treatment can be repeated. There is essentially no downtime, and most people return to normal activities immediately while avoiding heat and heavy exercise for the rest of the day. The treatment is carried out by MUDr. Hana Plachá, who is certified in plastic surgery and trains physicians in botulinum toxin technique; she reviews your medical history and any contraindications, such as pregnancy or breastfeeding, before proceeding. It suits adults whose excessive underarm, palm or sole sweating has not responded adequately to antiperspirants.
