Lumps & Bumps Ultrasound

A superficial tissue ultrasound examination for palpable lumps, bumps, or swellings beneath the skin. Identifies cysts, lipomas, enlarged lymph nodes, and other subcutaneous structures. Excludes breast tissue assessment.

The Lumps & Bumps Ultrasound is a focused superficial tissue assessment designed for individuals who have noticed a palpable lump, bump, or swelling and want a quick, non-invasive evaluation. High-frequency ultrasound is the first-line imaging modality for superficial soft tissue masses because it provides excellent resolution of structures close to the skin surface and can reliably distinguish between solid and fluid-filled lesions. Common findings include lipomas (benign fatty lumps that are the most frequent cause of soft tissue swelling), sebaceous cysts, enlarged lymph nodes, ganglion cysts, and hernias. The ultrasound characterises each lesion by its size, shape, internal structure, blood flow pattern, and relationship to surrounding tissues — features that help determine whether the finding is likely benign or warrants further investigation. This examination explicitly excludes breast tissue assessment, which requires a dedicated breast ultrasound protocol. The scan is suitable for lumps anywhere else on the body — neck, arms, legs, trunk, or groin. It is particularly useful for providing reassurance about lumps that are almost certainly benign but causing anxiety, or for identifying findings that should be referred for further evaluation. The examination is performed with a doctor consultation to explain the findings and recommend any follow-up if needed.
