Shockwave Therapy

Type

Shock Wave Therapy

Duration

30 min

What's included

4 deliverables in this treatment

  • Palpation assessment and localisation of the problem area
  • Radial shockwave application with intensity adjusted to tolerance
  • Load-management advice for the 48 hours after treatment
  • Course plan recommendation (typically 3–6 weekly sessions for chronic issues)

Shockwave therapy at Colliery Recovery uses acoustic pressure waves to deliver concentrated energy into painful tissue — tendons, muscle attachments, ligaments and other soft tissues with subacute, subchronic or chronic complaints. The energy stimulates the body's regenerative and reparative processes in bone, connective tissue and soft tissue, and is widely used for stubborn conditions such as tennis and golfer's elbow, plantar fasciitis and heel spurs, jumper's knee, Achilles tendinopathy, calcific shoulder and chronic muscle trigger points. Sessions take around 30 minutes including assessment, cost 600 Kč, and are typically delivered as a short weekly series integrated into a broader physiotherapy plan.

About this treatment

Radial shockwave therapy (extracorporeal shockwave therapy) is one of the best-evidenced physical therapy tools for chronic tendon and soft-tissue conditions that have resisted rest, stretching and basic rehabilitation. A handpiece transmits acoustic pressure waves into the tissue, where the mechanical energy triggers a cascade of biological responses.

How it works

The shockwaves create controlled micro-stimulation in the treated tissue. This is associated with increased local blood flow and metabolic activity, stimulation of fibroblasts and tenocytes (the cells that rebuild connective tissue and tendon), breakdown of calcific deposits, and modulation of pain signalling — chronic pain pathways are 'reset' as the tissue re-enters an active healing phase. In essence, shockwave converts a stalled chronic problem back…
