Red Light Therapy
Duration
20 min
Red Light Therapy is Colliery Recovery's newest service (added February 2026): a 15–20-minute photobiomodulation session using red and near-infrared light in the 630–850 nm range. The light penetrates into the tissue and stimulates mitochondria, supporting cellular ATP production — an effect associated with faster muscle regeneration after training, reduced inflammation and muscle fatigue, relief of back, neck and joint pain, better microcirculation, soft-tissue healing support and improved skin quality. The studio positions it as one of the most effective non-invasive recovery tools for HYROX, CrossFit, running and strength athletes, as well as for clients with chronic back pain. A short consultation precedes the first application.
Red light therapy (photobiomodulation) uses specific wavelengths of red (around 630–660 nm) and near-infrared (around 800–850 nm) light that penetrate skin and underlying tissue more deeply than visible light of other colours. Unlike a heat lamp or sauna, the mechanism is not thermal: the light is absorbed by chromophores in the mitochondria — the energy centres of cells — where it is associated with increased production of ATP, the cell's energy currency, and a cascade of downstream regenerative signalling. **Reported effects the studio targets:** - Faster muscle regeneration after training loads - Reduced inflammation and muscle fatigue - Relief from back, neck and joint pain - Improved microcirculation and tissue oxygenation - Support for soft-tissue healing - Improved skin quality **Who it suits:** Colliery Recovery recommends red light therapy especially for athletes — HYROX and CrossFit competitors, runners and strength athletes — and for clients with chronic back or joint pain, muscle overload, or elevated training loads where systematic recovery matters. Because the studio operates above a CrossFit gym, sessions are easy to slot in directly after training. **The session:** Treatment is painless and non-invasive. Depending on the goal, the application is local (a specific muscle group or painful area) or whole-body in front of the light panel. A session lasts 15–20 minutes; no downtime follows and normal training can continue the same day. Before the first application the team runs a short consultation to confirm suitability and set the protocol. **Protocol:** For meaningful results the studio recommends a frequency of 2–4 sessions per week, with a course of 8–10 visits for maximum effect. Single sessions are useful as acute recovery support after particularly heavy training blocks. **Contraindications:** Red light therapy is not suitable during active oncological disease, over the abdomen during pregnancy, while taking photosensitising medication, or with acute bleeding. The pre-session consultation screens for these. **Why here:** At 220 Kč per session, Colliery Recovery's pricing makes a multi-week photobiomodulation course genuinely affordable compared to typical Western European rates, and the integration with physiotherapy, cryotherapy and massage lets the team build red light into a complete recovery programme rather than offering it in isolation.
