Cone-Beam CT & Panoramic Imaging (CBCT)
Type
CT Scan
Duration
20 min
On-site digital 3D and panoramic dental imaging using Vatech equipment. A cone-beam CT (CBCT) scan produces a three-dimensional view of the teeth, jawbone, nerves and sinuses, used to plan implants, surgical extractions and root canal cases accurately. A panoramic X-ray gives a single wide view of both jaws. Having imaging in the same practice means surgical and implant cases can be assessed and planned without referral elsewhere.
Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) is a form of 3D X-ray designed for the teeth and jaws. Unlike a flat dental X-ray, it captures a three-dimensional volume that lets the dentist see bone height and width, the precise course of nerves, the position of the sinuses and the shape and number of tooth roots. This detailed view is particularly valuable for planning dental implants, assessing impacted wisdom teeth before surgery, and investigating complex root canal anatomy or suspected cysts and lesions. The Chlamtacz practice is equipped with Vatech digital imaging, including a Pax-i pantomograph and intraoral radiography, so a range of images can be taken on site. A panoramic (pantomographic) scan provides a single broad view of all the teeth and both jaws and is a useful general overview, while a CBCT of the maxilla and mandible, or a smaller targeted field, is taken when three-dimensional detail is required. The scan itself is quick and non-invasive — the patient stands or sits still while the scanner rotates around the head — and modern digital sensors keep the radiation dose low for the diagnostic information obtained. Carrying out imaging in the same place as treatment means that surgical and implant planning can proceed without referral to an external radiology centre, which is convenient for visiting patients combining diagnosis and treatment. Imaging may also be supplied as a standalone diagnostic scan on referral. The dentist advises which type of image is appropriate for each clinical question.
