Blood Testing
Duration
20 min
Combined rapid fingerprick test delivering HIV and syphilis results from a single blood sample within minutes. Uses the INSTI Multiplo cassette, a CE-marked point-of-care device that detects HIV-1/2 antibodies and treponemal antibodies simultaneously. No laboratory wait time required.
The INSTI Multiplo is a dual-target rapid diagnostic test that screens for both HIV and syphilis from a single fingerprick blood sample. The cassette uses flow-through immunoassay technology to detect HIV-1 and HIV-2 antibodies alongside treponemal antibodies indicating current or past syphilis infection. Results appear on the test device within minutes, eliminating the days-long wait associated with laboratory-based testing. For HIV, the test detects antibodies that typically become measurable two to four weeks after infection, with reliable sensitivity from approximately three weeks post-exposure. Syphilis detection identifies treponemal antibodies, which remain positive after any previous syphilis infection whether treated or untreated. A reactive syphilis result therefore requires clinical context — the counsellor will discuss whether the result reflects a new infection requiring treatment or a known previous episode. The rapid format is particularly suited to individuals who need timely results — before travel, at the start of a new relationship, or when anxiety about a specific exposure makes a multi-day laboratory wait impractical. Reactive results on either target are followed up with confirmatory laboratory testing at no additional charge. Risk counselling is included with the appointment.
